NEW PRODUCT RELEASE
MIRUS International launches the first passive harmonic filter that outperforms an active filter
Improved harmonic performance
Mirus International has launched its new, high performance LINEATOR Advanced Universal Harmonic Filter (AUHF) that matches the performance of Active Front Ends (AFE) or Active Harmonic Filters (AHF). Known as the LINEATOR High Performance (HP), it reduces harmonic currents drawn by standard 6-Pulse VFD’s to <5% ITHD at full load and <5% ITDD over the entire operating range. This level of performance is equivalent to or better than more complex AFE Drives, especially when frequencies above the 50th harmonic are taken into consideration.
Avoids high frequency voltage distortion and EMI interference
Unlike AFEs or AHFs, the LINEATOR HP passive harmonic filter does not inject higher frequency voltage distortion (frequencies above the 50th up to the 100th harmonic) or higher electromagnetic interference (EMI) common-mode voltages and ground currents into the electrical supply system. These higher voltage harmonics are known contributors to failures in other connected equipment, including power supplies of critical electronic controls, sensitive test equipment, computers, PLCs, circuit breakers with electronic trips and other crucial power system protection equipment.
Increased reliability and increased savings
Specifying the LINEATOR HP for application with standard 6-Pulse VFD's provides end-users with low harmonic drive systems at 20 to 30 per cent less in capital costs than other solutions. And with >99% efficiency, the LINEATOR HP offers at least 2 percent efficiency gains over active solutions thereby, significantly lowering operating costs.

PROJECT SNAPSHOT
MIRUS rises to help deliver the skydiving experience Down Under
MIRUS International will provide harmonic mitigation for Australia’s first dedicated wind tunnel facility for indoor skydiving. As a property of Sky Venture LLC, the tunnel will operate under the global franchise brand iFLY, as iFLY Down Under. Sky Venture uses unrivalled wind tunnel technology to create a unique indoor skydiving experience, where anyone can feel the beauty and freedom of flight.
Construction of the 16.4ft wide vertical tunnel began in January, 2013. Upon completion, it will be one of the largest and most technically advanced skydive wind tunnel facilities in the world. The wind tunnel features four 600 HP variable frequency fan drives, each with a MIRUS LINEATOR Advanced Universal Harmonic Filter installed to ensure efficient harmonic mitigation. Additionally, it includes MIRUS' first installation of the Insight Power Meter and Alarm Monitor, designed to continuously monitor MIRUS products.
This order was secured through the cooperative work of MIRUS support engineer Talayeh Ameri and MIRUS’ Australian representative Martin Adams of CSE Uniserve Inc. CSE Uniserve will also perform local back-up services.
iFLY Down Under is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2014 at the Penrith Panthers Entertainment complex in Western Sydney. MIRUS International also supplies harmonic mitigation to many of Sky Venture’s 24 wind tunnels around the world, including iFLY Montreal, iFLY Toronto, iFLY Arizona and iFLY Singapore.

WEBINAR PRESENTATION
Advancing Harmonics Analysis Technology with SOLV v6.5
This past summer, Marek Farbis, Chief Applications & Power Electronics Engineer, presented a webinar titled, "Advancing Harmonics Analysis Technology with SOLV v6.5." In the webinar, Marek walked participants through the new features of SOLV v6.5 and demonstrated both PQ improvement and energy savings
SOLV is a powerful simulation program that will calculate current and voltage distortion levels by simulating the MIRUS LINEATOR and Variable Speed Drive (VSD) / Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) based on your load requirement. SOLV v6.5 now provides dual scenario, energy analysis, and easier reporting. By simply entering some basic information about your source and VSD system, MIRUS' SOLV will help you find the right solution for your VSD application by accurately predicting the performance level you can expect without the need of a costly harmonic study. And it's completely free.
